Chat
Chat is the button in the bottom-left corner of every screen, beside Reminders.

Any screen → Chat
It is there on every page deliberately. You can be halfway through a contract, a report or a job and still ask somebody something, without losing what you were doing.
Chat is an Advance plan feature. See plans and pricing.
The panel
Section titled “The panel”
Chat → a conversation
Clicking it opens the list of everyone you can reach — your fieldworkers and your office staff. Under each name is either the last message or Create New Chat… for somebody you have not spoken to yet. The magnifier at the top finds a person in a long list, and the – minimises the panel without closing the conversation.
The green dot on a picture means that person is online now; grey means they are not. It is worth a glance before you rely on an answer coming back quickly.
Clicking a name opens the conversation in its own window beside the list, so you can be reading one and looking down the list at the same time. Type a message here sends it, the paperclip attaches a file, and the – and ✕ in its corner minimise or close it.
What it is for, and what it is not
Section titled “What it is for, and what it is not”Chat is direct messaging between your own people. It is not the client’s channel — clients reach you through requests and the customer portal.
It is also not the place for anything that belongs to a particular job. EyeOnTask has a separate thread for that:
- Message to Fieldworker in the job action menu attaches the conversation to the job, so “did you take the spare capacitor?” is still there when somebody opens that job in six months.
- Message to Client on the same menu is the one that reaches the client.
Use Chat for what does not belong to a record — who is covering tomorrow, whether somebody can swing past a site on the way home. Use the job’s own thread for anything about the work, because that is where it will be looked for later.
